William's Worms Welcome
My first novel, The Worms of Euston Square, was published in August 2006 by independent Scottish publisher, Mercat Press. I'm nearing the end of my second, Maestro of the Assassins, and hope to have it with you before the Hindhead bypass on the A3 opens.
An Amazon review describes Worms as "a blast from the capital's past which brilliantly mirrors our own troubled and nervous times." Thanks to those of you who've bought it, taken it out of the library, and asked your local bookshops for it.
"Thoroughly enjoyable." Scotsman review by novelist, Allan Massie. "If William Sutton can maintain this standard of invention, this mastery of linguistic tone, he is on to a winner." I am now at work on a follow-up novel, in which Campbell Lawless gets embroiled with European radicals: Chief of the Assassins.
xxx William More on Worms of Euston Square: reviews and news
The Worms of Euston Square is a literary mystery set in Victorian London.
First-rate Victorian crime fiction. The Herald
The action moves with dizzying speed from the highest quarters in the land to the vilest slums and low dives of the teeming city. … Thoroughly enjoyable. Allan Massie, The Scotsman
"Highly original and engaging ... Prose and interweaving plots built like wrought-iron Victorian follies … Genuinely funny." Michael Gardiner, Scotland on Sunday
A blast from the capital's past which brilliantly mirrors our own troubled and nervous times. … Challenging and supremely witty … Beautifully written and utterly absorbing ... Compelling, unpredictable and entertaining. Amazon reviews
Shines in its evocation of Victorian London: a living, breathing, stinking beast of a city. BookBag

We launched Worms at the Edinburgh International Book Festival at 6pm, Monday 21 August, in a most excellent reading with Bruce Durie, polymath, novelist and editor of Dick Donovan, the original curmudgeonly Glasgow detective.
I also read at Thirsty Lunch in The Jazz Cafe, Edinburgh, where I was awed to meet esteemed Scottish novelist, Alasdair Gray, who signed my book in a childlike scrawl, and then went on a wee London/Scotland tour.
